European Parliament approves funding of €14.8m for former Dell workers

The European Parliament voted (Wednesday 25th) to approve the allocation of 14.8 million euros from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) to support approximately 2400 former Dell employees and their suppliers from Limerick

The EGF was established in 2006 to provide financial support and assistance for workers who have been negatively affected by regional economic downturns arising from the dynamics of globalised economy.

Dell in Limerick suffered a drop of approximately 25% in its sales of PC's early in 2009 and the company decided to relocate it production facilities to lower cost base countries, leaving approximately 2,800 employees and their suppliers.

The EGF funding will be used to assist the former Dell employees through the provision of various retraining and employment creation measures.
