Consumer & Health Issues
The EU helps the consumer by advising on rights and allowing easy compensation. The European Health Insurance Card is of great help to citizens who fall ill while on holiday in other EU Member States!
The European Union has been a leader in the field of consumer protection. EU Directives aimed at protecting consumers and providing redress have given Ireland has a very high standard of consumer protection. The European Consumer Centres Network (ECC-Net) promotes consumer confidence by advising citizens on their rights as consumers and provides easy access to redress, particularly in cases of cross-border shopping.
The European Consumer Centre in Ireland is located at: 13A Upper O'Connell Street, Dublin 1, Tel: 01 809 0600, Fax: 01 809 0601, Email: firstname.lastname@example.org, Website: http://www.eccdublin.ie.
On 1 January 2009 a European Small Claims Court system came into operation in all EU (excluding Denmark). The new Court system handles cross-border consumer cases and, just like the Irish Small Claims Court, deals with disputes concerning goods or services to the value of €2000 or less.
